2019 trip report

Just returned from a memorable trip to Rwanda last month. The trip was very enjoyable and Rwanda exceeded our expectations everywhere we went.

We booked a fully guided tour for two weeks with Danny at Bizidanny tours (bizidanny.com). He also runs a beautiful modern hotel called Cozy Safari in a lovely quiet spot in Kigali. They have high speed wifi, great food and welcoming staff who were super kind to us.

Danny organised everything perfectly for our stay including sourcing a great guide Jean-Pierre who’s company was undoubtably one of the many highlights of our trip. We couldn’t fault the organisation and efficieny of the tour and it was very well paced throughout.

One or two points to points to fellow travelers that they might find useful;

Emeraude Resort in Rusizi/Cyangugu is a beautiful spot to use as a base for Nyungwe forest. The Thermal Baths beside the lake were interesting to say the least!

Paradis Malahide guesthouse in Rubavu/Gisenyi  is a great place to relax before or after Volcanoes National Park.

Mt Bisoke is extemely tough. We might have caught a bad day for climbing 500ft a hour is not for the faint hearted. Coming down is treacherous and injury is very possible! We made it to the top and back unscathed fortunately.

Golden Monkeys. An absolute must in Volcanoes Park.

A final but important point, Rwandan cuisine is delicious. I would advise all to stick to the local delicacies including their porridge, avacado salads, local fish and sambezi. Not to mention their fresh juices, local beer including stout and banana wine!
